The Quintessential Quintuplets to Receive Anime Adaptation of Sequel Novel

The Quintessential Quintuplets, the popular romance anime, is set to return with a brand-new project. This time, the series will receive an anime adaptation of its sequel novel titled The Quintessential Quintuplets: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter.

The announcement was made during The Quintessential Quintuplets SPECIAL EVENT 2026 in TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO, held on May 2, 2026. The event was also attended by the main voice cast, including Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Kana Hanazawa. Their appearance immediately caught the attention of fans who have followed the series since the very first anime season aired. The anime industry really discovered an immortal formula here: five identical sisters, one permanently stressed protagonist, and millions of people emotionally invested for years.

The sequel novel itself is written by Hajime Asano under the full supervision of the series’ original creator, Negi Haruba. The story serves as a direct continuation of the main storyline and is considered the official canon sequel to The Quintessential Quintuplets. With that canon status, the new story is expected to continue the lives of Futaro Uesugi and the Nakano sisters after the ending of the original series.

Franchise History and Production Background

Besides receiving an anime adaptation, the novel is also planned to get a manga adaptation. The announcement immediately drew attention from fans who have long awaited a continuation of the quintuplets’ story. The franchise is still considered to have a very strong fanbase even though the original manga ended several years ago. Because apparently, the “best girl” debate will never truly end as long as the internet continues to exist. Humanity built global networks just to argue over fictional sisters. Incredible species.

In addition to announcing the sequel adaptation, the production team also introduced a new Original Video Animation (OVA) project. The special episode will adapt several original manga chapters that previously never received anime versions. This news excited many fans since some moments from the manga will finally be animated for the first time.

For reference, The Quintessential Quintuplets manga was first serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2017 to 2020. Negi Haruba’s series concluded with a total of 122 chapters compiled into 14 volumes.

The first anime season aired in 2019 and was produced by Tezuka Productions, while the second season and the concluding movie were handled by Bibury Animation Studios. Meanwhile, studio SHAFT also produced special anime episodes released in 2023 and 2024.

Unfortunately, there are still no further details regarding the studio, voice cast, or release schedule for The Quintessential Quintuplets: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Fans will have to wait for the next official announcement. Romance anime really loves making people wait. Sometimes for the characters, sometimes for the ending, and sometimes just for the release date.
